Recent Highlights: Families and Kids

While we’re getting the block back up to date, I wanted to share with you some highlights from the family and child sessions we’ve done over the past few months.  First up is a young family, one of whose members you might recognize from a previous post — we did her maternity portraits last year!

Updates, updates, updates! 2009 and 2010 Seniors!

Sooo we had a little lapse there and our blog has been lonely.  Poor guy!  But we’re back on track and have some great new updates!

Fall’s Fabulous Senior Ladies!

Four Fabulous Seniors!

2009 Seniors

We have two new seniors to present to you!  They both were a blast to work with!

Faces of our cover page

We periodically change the image header (that thing at the top of the page with pictures and our company name and logo) to (hopefully) intrigue visitors with new samples of our work.  When possible, I juice up each of these explanatory post with additional pictures of the people featured in the image header.  I (Marta) generally have a reason for choosing the images that I do beyond their being great pictures.  My goal is to explain what I saw, and what I want to present to you visitors, in these pictures.  

The current set of images are all recent 2008 high school seniors.  In this case, each picture represents a different aspect of our work, particularly for seniors, from left to right: on-location, traditional, and contemporary.

This featured location session was loads of fun, and we got a great mix of urban and natural backgrounds.  (I picked the wrong day to wear my good shoes…it had rained recently, and they got a little bit muddy…if you’re thinking of doing a location shoot, which I highly recommend, it’s often good to bring along a towel or extra pair of shoes you don’t mind getting dirty for trekking between locations.)  The weather was perfect–we were worried because it had rained the day before and was supposed to keep going–and just overcast enough to provide the best and most flattering lighting.  This session was on May 2, 2008.  The senior wanted Spring-ish pictures, and we were just barely late enough to get some good greenery.  She brought around 5 outfits, and often in an on-location situation you need to change clothes in the car, so keep that in mind when you’re deciding what to wear.  All in all this was a great session and her pictures came out wonderfully.

   

The traditional session, the boy in the middle, was a last-minute, short 2-outfit session.  We usually book a 2-outfit session for about an hour.  He had one casual outfit and one formal outfit.  I think he had a good time and he and his family were happy with the pictures.  The results were some attractive casual images and some very handsome formal portraits.

  

This featured contemporary session was a lot of fun (well, I wasn’t in the studio during the shoot, but it was a lot of fun working with her pictures).  She is a creative girl, and she didn’t want cliché poses or looks, she didn’t want too much formal or traditional stuff–she wanted her pictures to be different.  I think we succeeded.  Because she wanted something unique, Michael got to play around more with outfits, backgrounds and props; even though her session was not on location, we actually succeeded in getting about as much variety as we do on location.  Her pictures ranged from a few classic headshots to gorgeous and interesting angles in the parking lot to jumping around in the studio for some fun action shots.  Sometimes Michael will play around with digital artwork for the proofs.  If you like the artwork, great, but it’s okay if you don’t–you can order the image without it.  Overall these pictures were a blast.
